The North Shore Health Care Foundation is wrapping up another transformational year. We can confidently say that we lived up to our values of:

Our values provide a guideline for making decisions at all levels of our organization. We believe in the possibilities of people, organizations, businesses and governments working together to create a healthy community for all in Cook County. Our values represent what we believe in, what we stand for and how we approach everything we do at the North Shore Health Care Foundation.

30 YEARS – DID YOU KNOW?

Did you know that the North Shore Health Care Foundation is an independent nonprofit dedicated to improving health care and emergency services in Cook County, MN, started by a group of dedicated residents back in 1993? We are not part of the local hospital or clinic, but are a standalone organization now celebrating our 30th year.

We need your help to do more. Accessible health care, healthy living programs, and the emergency services we all rely on, on the North Shore and Cook County MN, for residents and visitors are more important now than ever.

We are a funder through our grants to numerous community health and health care education programs, an incubator who creates and develops programs that fill gaps locally. Care Partners of Cook County, the Oral Health Task Force and the Northern Cancer Travel Grant all began within the Health Care Foundation, and are now permanent assets in the community. We are a community leader working to make a real impact in health in Cook County.

Currently, in addition to leading the multi-agency collaborative Workforce Solutions Program that has now made high-tech training found in other large centers a reality here locally along with accredited training opportunities, it has stabilized our EMS, trained multiple cohorts of medical assistants and pharmacy technicians. The Foundation is now incubating:

  • The Cook County MN Restorative Justice Program
  • The Truancy Solutions Program for early intervention and connecting students and families to necessary resources to help young people succeed and by healthy, and
  • We will now be taking on the Early Childhood Hub to give it a more permanent home to help it grow and develop to address the critical early childhood needs of the community.

We exist to expand equitable health care and healthy living in Cook County. We have recently updated our key priorities that will help direct our work and funding for the next five years under our updated strategic plan. Our key priorities include:

  • Accessible health care (now more important than ever)
  • Children’s services & family wellbeing
  • Mental health & wellness for all ages
